Water strategy
Water can be a leading business cost for companies that rely on municipal sources and use water extensively in industrial or agricultural processes. Even when organisations have access to low-cost or free water sources, such as boreholes, wells, rivers, and lakes, this may result in medium and long-term effects on availability of water for the organisation and its neighbours. A water strategy is the way in which an organisation plans how it sources, uses, conserves, and impacts water. This is often referred to as stewardship. Use of water should be done in a way that is cost-effective and efficient for the organisation, that long-term negative effects on the environment are minimized, and that social impacts are considered. Proactively assessing and managing water use has been shown to highlight opportunities for significant improvements in processes and reductions in water use and costs.
