Stakeholder engagement plan
A stakeholder engagement plan (SEP) identifies which external and internal stakeholders are important to your organisation and how you you engage with them. Stakeholders can include staff, customers, communities, suppliers, regulators, and business partners. The SEP should prioritise each stakeholder group based on the influence of the stakeholder on the business and the critical nature of their concerns. For instance, communities may be impacted by noise or air pollution from the organisation's operations. They are therefore likely to complain or cause disruptions to the organisation. Customers may be key stakeholders to ensure sustained market share and to learn about any difficulties in using products and services. Employees are the frontline for stakeholder engagement. They are also influential stakeholders in their own right and can disrupt the business through strikes and sabotage if their concerns are not addressed. The SEP should mention strategies and channels for engaging with stakeholders and may include records of previous engagements and issues that were raised. Stakeholder engagement is particularly important in the design of new projects and may be a regulatory requirement in order to get licenses and approvals.
